Although this tragedy has made its impact in a particular region of the world, globally, there will be few if any who it will not affect.
Depending on how one views life, some will lament the absence of pre-warning systems as the major issue to concentrate on while others will focus more on the natural element searching for the infinite lessons that can be drawn from human helplessness.
The sheer loss of life affecting people from all over the globe will certainly give it the coverage and attention that it deserves but some of us will be hopeful that together as a global community we will see this as an opportunity to co-operate better as human beings.
The irony that the bulk of victims have been from areas already ridden with conflict i.e Tamil controlled parts of Sri Lanka and Aceh, Indonesia is sufficient cause for reflection.
At this time of need, Muslims should spare no expense in providing as much help as possible in aiding the victims irrespective of their creed. Indeed, it is encouraging that UK based Muslim charities such as Islamic Relief and Muslim Aid amongst others have been quick off their feet in meeting this challenge.

It is also a time to reflect on our day to day lives, putting into perspective the time we spend in pursuit of our daily bread. Much pain and agony has befallen those who have loved ones missing or dead. The horror of witnessing so many dead bodies must certainly make us conscious of how delicate life can be.
A point should be made here for the noted absence of George Bush from the Global Podium, much preferring not to disrupt his vacation in Crawford, Texas despite his otherwise ‘concerned’ views on global events.
