Of those that may have rejoiced on David Blunkett's departure, none would have shreiked for joy more than those who have family members toiling in prison wandering what they are doing there.
Of course, the joy may well be short-lived but at least there's hope that in the future, people are not branded as guilty before evidence is presented to a court. Moreso. that ingenious comments about Imams not being able to speak English and (whathaveyou) is surely now a thing of the past.
Remaining in office amidst the allegations that were mounting obviously became untenable and sadly the phrase 'Being hoisted from his own petard' has a certain ring to it.
Sadly, for the forthright and sincere person that to many Muslims he was once considered to be, his stance on the "War-on -Terror' and it's associated problems will overshadow much of the good work that no doubt he had accomplished.
Furthermore, many Muslims are in the belief that he should have left sometime ago. Non-muslims may cite the unprecedented saga with the Chief of Humberside Police but Muslims will be conscious of the rise in innocent Muslims involved in stop and search and worse.
Despite all the above, we sincerily wish him good luck for the future and are confident that he will re-emarge some day (a la Mandelson) in some other capacity and be successful.
In the meantime, we thank the Almighty.
