Research conducted by the Centre for the Study of Islam at Glasgow University will certainly raise some eyebrows as we learn that Muslims in the UK have been found to be amongst the most generous when giving charity. Of further surprise is the 5% of income cited as an average figure that they contribute (Doubling the rate that we are obliged to give in Zakat).
Raised eyebrows aside, one mustn’t fail to applaud those that give and it certainly eclipses our performance in other aspects of our Deen (But let’s not go there).
Just one word of caution though, what we give is patently not enough as world poverty will remind us and spending on unfortunate Non-Muslims is something we need to get serious about.
