During the blessed month of Ramadhan, it is hoped that all Muslims in Britain and globally would have availed of the opportunity to focus on our existence and improve our actions. Now that Eid is here, another opportunity arises to celebrate Islamic culture and increase our awareness of the Ummah, paying particular attention to those who are less fortunate than us. Although, for some, this heightens a frenetic rush to the bazaar, one should also reflect on how we have spent our Ramadhan and urge ourselves to Insha-allah, perform better next year.
We can also feel solace in the fact that over the years, the Muslim community UK-wide is gradually coming round to the idea and importance of celebrating Eid on the same day. While we celebrate, we mustn't forget the suffering of those throughout the globe for whom Eid may be a reminder of better days in the past or a source for hope in the future.
Paying the Sadaqah -ul-Fitr is of course an opportunity to ensure that those economically less fortunate are provided for. Finally, it maybe an idea to invite our neighbours to our celebrations and not just concentrate on the familiar family and friends routine.
